Climbing Nets
Billabong Playgrounds manufactures custom climbing nets for playgrounds right here in Melbourne, built to comply with AS 4685, and supplies them to schools, councils and childcare centres across Australia. From compact spider's web nets for a courtyard corner to full-scale climbing structures for a school or public park, every net is made to order rather than pulled from a standard size range.
All Our Climbing Nets
Our climbing net range covers rope traverse walls, horizontal playground nets, spider's web nets, honeycomb scramble nets, wiggle walk nets, irregular-shaped nets for awkward sites, angled and vertical climbing nets, and compact climbing pyramid nets. Each style suits a different play pattern and age range, and most can be combined with our rope bridges or resized to fit an existing structure, tree or shade sail footprint. If you're not sure which style fits your site, we're happy to talk through the options before you commit to a layout.
Rope Net Styles at a Glance
Every product in our range is a rope net at heart, just shaped differently — flat and angled for the horizontal playground net, three-dimensional for the honeycomb scramble and climbing pyramid, or a single strand for the rope traverse. If a particular rope net style isn't listed here, tell us the play experience you're after and we'll shape one to fit.
Built for Active Play
Climbing nets reward active play in a way few other playground elements can — they demand coordination, upper-body strength, problem-solving and risk assessment all at once, and no two children climb a net the same way. That variability is part of why nets hold children's attention longer than fixed equipment, and why they're a strong addition to almost any playground brief, from early learning centres through to secondary schools.

Reaching New Heights, Safely
Every net is engineered and rope-specified to let children push themselves toward new heights while staying within a controlled, standards-compliant fall zone. We use UV-stable, marine-grade rope and galvanised steel fittings throughout, so nets installed today will still be performing to the same standard in years to come, and individual ropes can be replaced rather than requiring a full net replacement.
Custom Climbing Net Design
Because every net is manufactured in-house, we can design around constraints a catalogue product can't handle — a sloped site, an irregular boundary, an existing tree you want to keep, or a specific age group's reach and grip requirements. Tell us your site dimensions and the play experience you're after, and our design team will put together a concept before any manufacturing begins, wherever in Australia your site is.

Common Questions
What rope do you use for climbing nets?
We manufacture using UV-stable, marine-grade rope selected for its abrasion resistance and long service life outdoors, fitted with galvanised steel end terminations and hardware. The exact rope specification is matched to the net style and expected use, since a high-traffic school net and a lower-use park net don't need identical construction.
How are climbing nets secured and maintained?
Nets are fixed to engineered steel frames or existing structures using certified fittings, and every installation is signed off against AS 4685. Because the ropes and hardware are individually replaceable, ongoing maintenance is generally limited to periodic inspection and occasional rope or fitting replacement rather than replacing the whole net.
What's the difference between a climbing net and a cargo net?
The terms are often used interchangeably, but "cargo net" more specifically describes a flat or angled net panel, while our climbing net range includes three-dimensional structures like the honeycomb scramble and climbing pyramid as well as flatter styles like the horizontal playground net and spider's web. We can talk you through which shape best suits your site and the play experience you want.
